Clint Bowyer wins at Talladega under a yellow flag last Sunday with his #33 BB&T

Chevy that he drives for Richard Childress Racing (RCR).  The race was declared over under a yellow flag for sixth and final time due to a multi-car crash involving AJ Allmendinger in which he flipped and actually went airborne.  In accordance with NASCAR regulations, once the lead car passes the white flag on the final lap, then the race can end under a yellow flag.  When race officials reviewed the tape and could see that Bowyer was slightly ahead of his teammate, Kevin Harvick in his #29 Realtree car, they declared Bowyer as the winner.

The last big excitement of the race came up on the final four laps of the race after the fifth caution for debris on the track.  In that re-start, Clint Bowyer and Jimmie Johnson dualed with Bowyer getting ahead by taking the inside position and getting pushed ahead with the drafting of Earnhardt Ganassi’s Juan Pablo Montoya.  After the due of Bowyer and Montoya pulled away from the pack, with about 2 laps remaining, Kevin Harvick battled back up front with the aid of a drafting David Reutimann.  The battling duo’s pitted Harvick and Bowyer to a side by side close finish which had to be reviewed to see who’s car was ahead when the final yellow was raised.

The race left the top three contenders for the Chase for the Sprint Cup only 38 points apart with Jimmie Johnson leading over second place Denny Hamlin by 14 points, and 38 points ahead of third place Kevin Harvick with only three races remaining.

Budweiser and Richard Childress Racing Team Up for the 2011 season

It is final thatBudweiser and Kevin Harvick will team together for 20 races during the 2011 Sprint Cup Season. Budweiser began looking for a new driver around the same time Harvick needed a sponsor. Budweiser has been behind Kasey Kahne for the past 3 years starting in 2008. Kasey is moving to Hendrick Motorsports in 2012, and that agreement left the longtime NASCAR sponsor in search of its third driver. Kasey will race for Red Bull for the 2011 and will  make the switch to Hendricks at the beginning of the 2012 season. Kevin Harvick currently holds the lead for the Chase in the Sprint Cup and is ahead by 293 points.  Kevin Harvick’s No. 29 Chevrolet will hold the Budweiser tradition red paint scheme for 20 races during next season. They will also sponsor the two non-points races during Speedweeks as Harvick is the Budweiser Shootout champion for the past 2 years. Budweiser will not be sponsoring the Sprint All-Star Race as it will be a  co-primary sponsor. They will remain an associate sponsor during the other 16 cup races for the season. Harvick and Richard Childress Racing lost current sponsor Shell-Pennzoil in April. Kevin responded by snapping a 115-race winless streak that same week at Talladega, and can not wait until the 2011 season. Kevin Harvick takes his 3rd win competing in the 2010 Sprint Cup yesterday in Michigan. He won the Car fax 400 at Michigan International Speedway this past weekend clinching his spot in the Chase. He is now holding the lead by 293 points also adding 20 bonus points to his stats for passing Hamlin on the last lap of the race, which will kick in after Chase Field on Sept. 11th. Jeff Gordon follows Kevin Harvick in 2 place, with now almost 300 points behind. Kevin Harvick now has 30(10 for each win) and also prevented Hamlin from adding to his 50-point total. He now holds the record for the first driver to ever clinch a spot in Chase. Congratulations to Kevin Harvick for this is again his 3rd year this season.

Hamlin who took the spot from Stewart on Lap 178 ended up loosing his spot by Harvick on the last lap of the race! Kevin restarted in third, behind Tony Stewart after NASCAR threw a yellow flag for debris on Lap 167. Harvick was able to pass Hamlin on turn 3 and his Toyota was not able to hold through the last turn and Harvick won by 1.731 seconds. Kevin took a risk by staying out on the track under old tires, however was able to track Hamlin down and take home the victory. This was the first win Kevin has had at Michigan and marks number 14 for his career.

Budweiser moving directions??

Budweiser currently sponsors No 9 Ford of Richard Petty Motorsports and driver Kasey Kahne. They started sponsoring Kasey 3 years ago for the 2008 season.However, next year for the 2011 season Kasey is driving for Redbull Racing, and is moving to Hendrick Motorsports for the following season. Kasey will be replacing veteran Mark Martin in Hendricks No 5 Chevy for the 2012 Season.

Budweiser has had a long history in NASCAR and the past three years with Kasey Kahne which all they have enjoyed. They just are looking down a different path, and are not expected to stay with Richard Petty Motorsports. They are looking at all directions according to the driver/team sponsorship and will announce those plans within the next week. Budweiser started involving themselves with NASCAR back in the 1980s and has been a primary team sponsor ever since.

Currently Kevin Harvick is sponsored by Shell/Penzoil, which announced in April of this year that they had made plans with Kurt Busch. Penske Racing has struck a deal with Kurt to become the primary sponsor beginning next year(2011). This left Harvick and RCR team looking for a sponsor.

Harvick, has had 2 career wins this season, and currently leads in the standings for the 2010 Sprint Cup. Kevin also won the Budweiser shootout this year which is a non-point event held before the Daytona 500. He is 34 years old and has a total of 13 wins for his NASCAR career thus far.

Richard Petty Motorsports may possibly only have 2 teams next year if they loose Budweiser and teammates Kahne and Manard. There was a contract extension with AJ Allmendinger which they announced early last week. Richard Petty Motorsports have not announced any plans as of now for the 2011 season. Richard Petty and Foster Gillett did say they do have announcements planned for the following year.

Kevin Harvick Diecast Pennzoil 2009
