Sterling Marlin was born on June 30th 1957 and is a retired all american NASCAR driver! He was born in Columbia Tennessee and is the son of Coo Coo Marlin which is also a former NASCAR driver! His son Steadman, still races in the Nationwide or Sprint Cup Series every now and then! He is currently married to Paula and also has a daughter named Sutherlin! Marlin ran in the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with a limited schedule in the No 9 Phoenix racing Miccosukee Resort and Gaming Chevrolet! During the 2009 season his best finish was at Martinsville where he placed 35th in standings. Not only one week later Marlin crashed hard after 147 laps and finished 33rd during the Protection One 400 at Kansas International Speedway! Due to the crash, Marlin had a cracked vertebra in his neck and would miss the remainning seven races of the season. Marlin finished with eight top fives and ten top tens and fell in the standings finishing eighteenth in the final season points. Marlin was replaced by Jamie McMurray who had recently been signed by Chip Ganassi Racing and was driving for the Busch Series! McMurry won the UAW-GM Quality 500 in his second start in Marlin's car! Sterling Marlin even telephoned McMurray during the post-race festivities to congratulate him on his accomplishments thus far! On March 18, 2010, it was announced that Marlin said that he is done racing in the Sprint Cup Series.
