Mark Martin was born January 9th, 1959 and began his racing career as a young teenager in Arkansas on the dirt tracks. After achieving this he then moved on to asphalt racing, and went on to earn roockie of there year. He is currently a stock car driver in NASCAR and drives for Henderick Motorsports using #5 GoDaddy.com/Delphi/Carquest Chevrolet Impala. He has the most wins in NASCAR Nationwide Series, holding the current record at 48 wins. In 1988, after being spotted by Jack Roush he began driving # 6 which was sponsored by Valvoline and Viagra. In all of his NASCAR career, Martin has 40 cup wins and has finish second in the Sprint Cup Series point standings 5 times. In addition to that he also has won 5 IROC titles. In 2007 it was Martins first season to start with 3 consecutive top five finishes, one being in Daytona 500 where he finished just seconds behind Kevin Harvick. Then in 2008 he won the Sam’s Town 300, driving the #5 for JR Motorsports. This was his 48th career Nationwide Series victory and JR Motorsports 1st win. In 2009 with Martin now being 50 years old, he won the Subway Fresh Fit 500. He still holds the ranking with one of the 4 men to win a cup race in NASCAR after turning 50. In 2010 during Mid March Henderick Motorsports announced that GoDaddy.com would be sponsoring him in 20 races, and that he was signed to drive full time in the Sprint Cup Series until 2011. This year he started off very strong winning the pole for the 52nd Daytona 500, and has a solid start going into California. Martin is one of the only drivers along with Jimmie Johnson with a mathematical chance at winning
the championship. However Martin did drop recently to a 14th in standing from 10th place. He thinks that Indianapolis should provide the Rx that Martin needs to rebound with
six races remaining before the Chase starts.
