Darrell Waltrip Darrell Waltrip was born on February 5th in Owensboro Kentucky
where he started having the dream to race in NASCAR! He has won the NASCAR
Winston Cup Champion for the 3rd time, as well as the 1989 Daytona
500 and a five time winner of the Coca-Cola 600! He is the older brother of
Micheal Waltrip and currently is the commentator with Fox Broadcasting Company
and columnist at Foxsports.com!! Darrell started racing at a young age at the
Kentucky MotorSpeedway not to far from there house. His success led him to
moved to Nashville to race at the Music City Motorplex at the Tennessee State
Fairgrounds where he won two track championships! After his 2000 retirement he
signed with Fox to be the lead analyst on the network’s NASCAR telecasts .
During the Daytona 500 2001 event Waltrip was calling the race, and that’s when
his career started. Although his brother one this race that he announced, it
was overshadowed by the death of Dale Earnhardt. A week after these tragic
events Waltrip interviewed NASCAR President Mike Helton for a pre-race segment
during the broadcast at North Carolina Speedway. He decided that the four
deaths in the previous ten months all caused by skull fractures was too many.Since then Waltrip made here and there starts
in the Craftsman Truck Series and Busch Series since he retired in 2000. Last
year in 2009 he appeared in commercials for commercials for Rejuvenate Auto
with his No 11 Mt Dew Chevy. He is also currently making announcements for
breast cancer awereness.
