Dale Jarrett was born on November 26th 1956 in
Newton, North Carolina! He is the son of Ned Jarrett, which was a two time
NASCAR Grand National Champion. Dale is also in relation to Glenn
Jarrett(uncle), Jason Jarrett(son) and Todd Jarrett which were all at one point
involved in NASCAR. Currently Dale is a sports commentator however he is known
for his 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship. He began racing in 1977 with a
family owned car at Hickory Motor Speedway! The first race he was in he
finished ninth place, which was pretty good since he started in last. In 1982
he started competing in Busch Series, and finished 3rd racing #24
Ford for Horace Isenhower. Overall that season he finished 6th in
points, and had a total of 14 top 10s. In 1984 Dale made his Cup debut at
Martinsville Speedway, where he qualified 24th and finished 14th.Then
in 1990 at Michigan International Speedway he won his first Winston Cup race,
and finished 17th in the final standings. He retired from the Busch Series in 1999, to
become a part-time owner with Brett Favre so he could field the #11 Rayovac
Ford for his son Jason! Then in 2003 after recovering from a hard crash where
he suffered a concussion, he began his season winning at North Carolina
Speedway. Since Dale had not won a race since 1992, this was a big bounce back
for him. Dale’s final race was the All-Star in May of 2008, after he joined
ESPN’s NASCAR as a full-time booth announcer.
