Anthony
Allmendinger was born in Los Gatos, California on December 16th 1981. He
currently is racing for Richard Petty Motorsports and drives #43 Best Buy Ford
Fusion in the Sprint Cup Series. You might remember Anthony for his great
achievements in the Champ Car World, where he scored a run of 6 top-6 finishes
in 2004. Also towards the end of the season, he won the Roshfrans Rookie of the
year award. In 2006 he became the first American to win a Champ Car World
Series event, besides Ryan Hunter who held this title in 2004 at The Milwaukee
Mile. In September of 2006 Anthony started driving for Bill Davis Racing, and
made his debut in the Craftsman Truck Series at New Hampshire International
Speedway. He ended up not qualifying in that race due to crashing his primary
truck, however finished 5th at Talladega Speedway the following month. In 2007
after having three failures to qualify, he was replaced by Mike Skinner. This
was temporary, and Anthony returned to the Cup Series at Talledega. However,
after these minor setbacks he went on to win the Sprint Showdown at Lowe’s
Motor Speedway. This was during the NASCAR’s annual All-Star weekend, and
winning that event qualified him for the Sprint All-Star Race where he finished
17th. In 2009 Anthony’s team had several sponsors from Dodge, to Valvoline. AJ
had his best race at the Daytona 500 Debut, and was one of two drivers to
successfully attempt the first five races of the 2009 season. Anthony and Tony
Stewart were considered to be the two-go-or-go home drivers in NASCAR. Later
that year Mooresville, NC police arrested Anthony for drunk driving and he was
placed on probation by NASCAR for the rest of 2009 season.
2010- AJ didn’t let
that stop him from having a fresh start in 2010 where he finished 15th for the
Subway Fresh Fit 600, where he also collected his first NASCAR Sprint Cup pole.
He currently has 3 top ten’s and is 22nd in the point standings in 2010 after
22 races thus far. It was announced that he signed a multi-year deal with RPM
